Good looks and a tech-laden interior may win the Mercedes C-Class many fans, plus the C300e plug-in hybrid looks to be a seriously promising company car choice. However, there are more accommodating executive cars out there for boot space and passenger comfort, and many outshine it in terms of interior quality.

We’ve yet to try the most powerful diesel in the range, but with 262bhp and a claimed 0-62mph sprint of just 5.7sec, we expect it’ll be more than fast enough for anything you can throw at it. It's not as efficient as the C200d though, officially managing 54mpg instead of 60mpg, so that’s worth considering.
