2015 Vauxhall Adam S name change - details, price, on-sale date and engine

Vauxhall has changed the name of its performance version of the Adam city car to the Adam S, dropping the 'Grand Slam' title it was initially given. It's already on sale in the UK, but buyers will not be affected because the car already has S badging.

The change has been made because Vauxhall wanted to make it clearer to customers who were confused by the Grand Slam name.

What is it?
The Adam S is the performance version of Vauxhall's Adam city car. Aside from its new 1.4-litre turbocharged engine, the Adam S also gets a performance bodykit, new 18-inch alloy wheels, new springs and shock absorbers, and VXR brakes.

What engines can I choose from?

There's only the one engine option for the Adam S - a turbocharged four-cylinder 1.4-litre petrol engine developing 148bhp and 162lb ft of torque. It's connected to a six-speed manual transmission.

Vauxhall says the Adam S can reach 62mph in 8.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 124mph. Official average fuel economy is claimed at 47.8mpg, with CO2 emissions of 139g/km.

How much equipment does it come with?

Sitting at the very top of the Adam range, the Adam S comes with decent standard equipment. The list includes an upgraded interior with special floor mats, pedals and door trim, as well as stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, trip computer, leather steering wheel, and tinted rear windows.

Vauxhall's Intellilink infotainment system is also available as an option, as are Recaro seats.

**How much does it cost?

**The Adam S is priced at £16,995; £2000 more than the current range-topping Adam Black and White editions.

**How good are its rivals?

**Vauxhall has set its sights firmly on the Abarth 595 Turismo, a performance hatchback. The Abarth is around £1000 more expensive than the Adam S, and its 1.4-litre engine develops more power, at 158bhp.
