The Mitsubishi ASX is already keenly priced for the competitive small SUV market, but thanks to our Deal of the Day, it's more attractive than ever.
The ASX is smaller in size than many of the other cars in this market, so buyers who aren't ready for the full SUV experience might appreciate its smaller dimensions.
Of the three engine options available, the 1.6-litre petrol we've chosen here is the most flexible choice - it's easily got enough power for most driving situations. The comfort-oriented suspension set-up of the ASX ensures a smooth ride, and most bumps and rough surfaces are absorbed without any fuss.
The dashboard inside the ASX may be simple, but it's clutter-free and there's a satisfactory range of adjustment. Visibility is also good .
While the ASX is comfortable, its body movements aren't well controlled. There's a bit of bounce over larger bumps and crests, but thankfully not enough to make passengers ill. In terms of refinement, too, the ASX can't quite match the pace of its rivals. There's a lot of engine noise in all versions, and plenty of wind and road noise at motorway speeds.
The in-car infotainment system in the ASX is very fiddly and doesn't offer the same sort of functionality you'll find in other cars in this class. There's adequate space in the front and rear, but it's nothing special. It's the same story with the boot, where rivals offer considerably more space.
Should I add any options?
A roof carrier will allow you to pack more around the ASX, and costs £195.
What are its rivals?
Although the ASX is considerably smaller than many of its rivals, it's still up against the likes of the Honda CR-V and the Nissan Qashqai - our reigning small SUV of the year. Given the success of the competition, it's perhaps little surprise that the ASX hasn't become a front-runner in this class.
