The Vauxhall Adam is the company’s contender in the stylish-supermini market and brings the fight to the retro Fiat 500 and the pricier Mini hatchback.
Inside, high-quality materials cover most of the dashboard and all of the switches have a nicely damped action. There’s loads of room for customisation with choices of contrast trim for the interior and exterior.
It's easy to find a comfortable driving position because there’s loads of adjustment in the driver’s seat. A touch-screen infotainment screen can be fitted for a reasonable cost and is very intuitive to use.
Equipment is reasonably good, even on this entry-level Jam trim. Air conditioning, Bluetooth and DAB radio all come as standard. Beyond that your Adam is your oyster in terms of customisation.
The engine in this deal is noisy when worked hard and the lack of sixth gear makes things worse on the motorway. You can hear the suspension working, too.
It’s not very fun to drive. The steering doesn’t offer much feedback, and the car fidgets over poor road surfaces and bangs into the worst potholes and bumps.
The Adam’s resale values aren’t predicted to be very high either.
Should I add any options?
The Adam is a car built for personalisation but you must be careful not to make your Adam too outlandish. Firstly, it’ll make the car too expensive to buy, but secondly, it means you’ll find it that much harder to resell.
Personalisation options include numerous colours, wheels, decal packs and roof linings. The latter of which is available with Rolls-Royce-style LEDs to make it look like a night sky.
