Ford Fiesta vs Ford Focus: verdict

These Ford hatchbacks both sell in huge number, but which makes more sense: the cheaper Fiesta or the bigger Focus?...

Our verdict

At this price level, there aren’t many cars talented enough to beat the Fiesta, but it just so happens that Ford makes one of the few that can – in the forms in which we’ve lined up both cars, at least. Not only is the Focus significantly more practical, but it’s also more refined, has a more comfortable ride and is that bit more sophisticated to drive.

In addition, while it isn’t as quick as the Fiesta, by picking the 1.0 Ecoboost 125 engine in the Focus, you’ll benefit from lower running costs that make the latter, for many buyers, the cheaper car to own over three years. Factor in the Fiesta’s shortage of standard safety kit and the Focus is a deserving winner.
