Infiniti, Nissan's upmarket brand, is still several months away from becoming functional in the UK, but already the second wave of new models is starting to break cover.
At the Los Angeles show yesterday the company unveiled the G37 Convertible that will join the saloon and coup models powered by the same 325bhp 3.7-litre V6 engine. They are rivals for top-of-the-range BMW 3 Series models.
Like BMW, Infiniti has gone for a folding metal roof on its new drop-top. It has done so without the stretched tail look that blights some smaller coup-cabrios when the roof is up, though we don't yet know how this will impact luggage space when travelling open.
Leather upholstery, a Bose sound system with headrest speakers and heated and cooled seats are among the features that will be offered.
Infiniti is due to launch in the UK around the middle of next year with a four-model range the G37 saloon and coup, a compact 4x4 badged EX37 and a larger 4x4, the FX, which will be available with the same V6 engine or a 5.0-litre V8.
The convertible is expected to follow in 2010, when a diesel engine will be available for some models, increasing their appeal to Europeans.
