Kia's striking Magentis replacement
* On sale in 2011 to take on Mondeo * Bold styling from Audi TT designer * To be unveiled in New York on April 1...
This is Kia's boldly styled replacement for the Magentis, which will attempt to win sales from cars such as the Ford Mondeo.
In a break with the past, the new car won't continue with the Magentis name when it goes on sale in the UK next year. Kia is yet to reveal the new name.
Saloon with coupe pretentions
It's longer, lower and wider than the current car and, as with many new saloons, will have a more coupe-like profile.
A sloping roofline and high waistline help with that, but Kia promises the car will also be spacious and have class-leading safety and luxury equipment.
The car has been designed by Kia design boss Peter Schreyer, the man behind the first Audi TT. He said: 'The next-generation of Magentis possesses the power to surprise.
'It's a car that people will simply not expect from Kia and that's exactly what we set out to achieve. It's a global car with individual appeal.'
Find out more about the car when it's unveiled at the New York motor show on April 1. Come back then for a more in-depth report.
