Just as supermarkets are offering an ever wider range of produce, and farmers seek to diversify their output, car manufacturers look to broaden the appeal of their models. The latest is the Land Rover Discovery Sport, which now has new racy, luxurious and practical trims, as well as a range of new option packs.

First up is the Discovery Sport Metropolitan, which has silver exterior trim pieces and new 20in alloy wheels which come with a choice of gloss black or diamond-turned finishes. Inside, the Metropolitan features 14-way electrically adjustable heated and cooled seats covered in soft Windsor leather.

Other standard equipment includes a 650-watt Meridian audio system with 14 speakers, an interior air purification system and a Clearsight rear view mirror which uses a camera to broadcast the rear view, even if the rear of the car is filled with passengers or luggage, which would block a traditional mirror.

The Discovery Sport Metropolitan is available with the D200 diesel engine – our pick of the range – or as a plug-in hybrid, priced at £55,885 and £59,545 respectively.

The Discovery Sport Landmark features the mountain range logo which was applied to the original model from 1989, as well aluminium treadplates and puddle lights which illuminate when the front doors are opened. It also features roof bars, a panoramic glass roof, sliding and reclining rear seats, media holders to attach tablets for rear seat entertainment and a 360-degree camera.

Dynamic S models receive a sporty makeover, including a smattering of gloss black trim. Available with D165, D200 and plug-in hybrid engines, they cost £45,440, £46,840 and £51,320 respectively.

In a similar approach taken with the larger Discovery, Land Rover is now offering option packs for the Discovery Sport. These include Beach Days, with a centre armrest cooler, tailored sunshades and a collapsable boot organiser, while Road Trip features tablet holders to keep rear passengers entertained, plus roof cross bars and a roof box.

Snow Days, meanwhile, allows up to four pairs of skis or two snowboards to be carried in a carrier on the family SUV's roof rails, and there are rubber floor mats front and rear.

The new trims and option packs are available to order now, with deliveries due in the Autumn.
