Mitsubishi's cheaper Lancer

Mitubishi's Lancer saloon now costs less than some superminis.
The new entry-level Lancer 1.5 SE costs 12,704, which undercuts many superminis, including our favourite version of the Ford Fiesta.
Unlike a supermini, however, the Lancer is a spacious saloon that's taller and longer than a BMW 3 Series.
Standard equipment for the new Lancer is comprehensive, and includes:
• Seven airbags (including a driver's knee airbag)
• 16-inch alloy wheels
• Front foglights
• MP3 player input socket
• An alarm
• Metallic paint
New 1.5-litre petrol engine
The 1.5 SE is 3175 cheaper than the previous entry-level Lancer 1.8 GS3, and more efficient, too. It achieves an average of 42.8mpg rather than 36.7mpg, and CO2 emissions are trimmed to 156g/km 32g/km lower than the 1.8 GS3's.
The drop in CO2 cuts company car tax from the 1.8 G S3's 25% to 19% for the 1.5 SE.
A three-year unlimited mileage warranty comes as standard, and a Mitsubishi Service Plan, which covers the first three scheduled services, can be added for 275.
