Prices for the Subaru BRZ have been reduced by £2500, taking effect from May 1.

As a result, the BRZ SE Lux now starts at £23,995, down from £26,495. Subaru no longer offers the SE, which was the previous entry-level model. The company has decided to concentrate on the higher-specified SE Lux trim. SE Lux comes with Alcantara- and leather-trimmed seats and Torsen rear limited-slip differential as standard.

The price of the automatic version has also been cut by £2500, and now starts at £25,495.

Subaru says that the price reductions are due to an improvement in the currency exchange rate between the pound and the Yen. However, a spokesman for Toyota confirmed that it currenly has no plans to reduce the starting price of the all but identical GT86, which will remain at £25,110

Subaru says that the price cut is also designed to put clear distance between the BRZ and the WRX STI, which arrives in UK showrooms in May and starts at £28,995.
