Used test: Audi Q8 vs Range Rover Velar verdict

Buy either of these uber-stylish coupe SUVs at three years old and you could save a fortune, but which makes more sense? We've got the answer...

Audi Q8

Our Verdict

Despite appealing to the same buyer, these two coupe SUVs are very different in character.

The Velar is a cosseting cruiser, making every drive a relaxing experience. It's better equipped and more practical, and in this version, it's cheaper to buy and should prove cheaper to run, too.

The Q8 has a firmer edge than the Velar and handling that lives up to the promise of its looks, and its effortless performance is far more in keeping with its sporty remit. It also feels like a more luxurious car inside, and it's more than comfortable and roomy enough to justify its SUV moniker.

So, if you bought either of these two we think you'd be more than happy, but ultimately if it were our money we'd pay more and take the Q8. Had we been testing the more expensive V6 D300 version of the Velar the result may well have been different, but for us, as tested here, it's the Q8's superior driving manners that clinch it the victory.
