Vauxhall Adam gets new three-cylinder 1.0-litre engine

The Vauxhall Adam will feature the company's new 1.0-litre petrol engine when it appears at the Geneva motor show next month.

The Adam is the first car in Vauxhall's range to get the new three-cylinder unit, which comes in two power outputs: 89bhp and 113bhp. Although final economy figures have not yet been confirmed, the lower powered version promises emissions as low as 99g/km and fuel economy around 62mpg. The 113bhp version is expected to offer similar levels of economy.

Vauxhall is launching the new engine at the same time as an all-new six-speed manual gearbox.

The new gearbox is 30% lighter than the unit it replaces; the new 'box improves smoothness and reduces the distance the lever has to travel for changes. It will be offered across other models in the future, too.

The new 1.0-litre engine is available for order in the spring, with deliveries starting in the late summer.
