The Nissan X-Trail is a spacious and comfortable cruiser with the option of seven seats and a competitive price tag. Its main issue is that plenty of price rivals are better at being a seven-seat SUV, offering even more space and versatility. If you do buy an X-Trail but don't need four-wheel drive, the front-wheel-drive e-Power in entry-level Acenta Premium trim offers the best value.

So far we’ve tried the E-Power engine with E-4orce four-wheel drive, but unless you're after the best version for towing, we reckon it’s worth sticking with this 201bhp two-wheel drive version, which manages 0-62mph in 8.0sec.
