No matter how much you juggle around with the driver’s seat and the low-slung steering wheel, you end up with a straight-armed driving position and an uncomfortable bent-knees posture. The wheel does adjust for rake, but desperately needs a similar function for reach. The seat does not offer enough support, either.

The 206 offers reasonable interior space, but most newer rivals have much roomier accommodation in the rear. The car’s practical rectangular boot doesn’t lose much space to the rear wheelarches, and opens up to a useful size when the rear seats are split and folded.
