What should I look for in a used Peugeot Rifter estate?

Rear parking sensors weren’t standard on the entry-level Active model, and front ones and a rear view camera were only available as part of the Visio park pack, so look out for parking scrapes to the front and rear bumpers.

Alloy wheels are fairly well protected by the tyre sidewalls, but you should still look for any kerb damage. Also, any large chunks taken out of the rim could be an indication that the suspension has taken a knock and its alignment could do with a check to prevent uneven tyre wear and odd handling.

Since the Rifter is aimed at people who have children, its interior might have taken a bit of a battering. With that in mind, look out for any bits of broken plastic and stains to some of the lighter-coloured parts of the interior upholstery.

What are the most common problems with a used Peugeot Rifter estate?

Handbrake

A component used in the handbrake of some early Peugeot Rifters built up until 20 December 2018 might not be to the correct specification and could disengage, potentially leading to an accident. Any Peugeot dealer will be able to let you know if your car is affected, and install a modified component to prevent any future issues.

Other recalls include:

The passenger outer seat belts may not be correct to specification.

The possibility is that the lower metal engine protection guard could trap material between it and the underside of the engine exhaust system.

The urea injector may temporarily block.

Steering columns were produced not according to specification.

The inner tie rods connecting the steering rack to the track rod end are not correct to specification.

The possibility that the lower metal engine protection guard could trap material between it and the underside of the engine exhaust system.

Check all remedial work has been carried out.
