If you're looking for an electric SUV that can tackle some off-roading, the Solterra should be on your shortlist, but many rivals cost less and can go further on a charge. The lack of a cheaper two-wheel-drive model limits its appeal, and the related Toyota bZ4X gives you access to a much bigger dealer network.

Entry-level Limited trim provides a 12.3in infotainment system with sat-nav, plus heated front seats, a 360-degree camera system, an electric tailgate, and front and rear parking sensors.

The only ‘engine’ on offer provides decent rather than spectacular acceleration (0-62mph in 6.9sec). It's nippy enough for most needs.
