The Suzuki Ignis is a fair choice if you’re looking for an affordable city runabout but also need the all-weather peace of mind a four-wheel-drive system can bring. It’s a very easy car to drive and clever packaging means it’s spacious enough for most city car needs. What drags its score down is patchy interior quality and fairly unremarkable handling.

Trim: SZ3

It’s probably best to spend a little more on the upper trims, but entry-level SZ3 still comes with front electric windows, a DAB radio, Bluetooth, four speakers and air conditioning. It does miss out on some important bits of kit, though.

Engine: 1.2 Dualjet SHVS

The addition of Suzuki’s ‘mild hybrid’ technology doesn't mean pure-electric driving, but its clever way of generating and storing energy helps the engine run more efficiently and, in turn, produce less CO2 and use less fuel. Four-wheel drive is also available as an option with this motor.
