The Vauxhall Grandland is well equipped and spacious enough for most families. However, it's hard to ignore the similarly priced, more practical and more comfortable Kia Sportage.

Top-spec Ultimate is a little too expensive to recommend, but it covers all the bases if you want every mod con. Indeed, it adds a head-up display, a panoramic roof, a heated windscreen, a premium stereo system and very clever Matrix LED headlights.
