    My car

I bought my diesel xt automatic (55reg)for £16000 at Xmas from a Chrysler dealer. The vehicle was 13 months old so saved a fortune off list price (with 11k ).This motor is the dogs bo....cks. It also pulls my 1.5 ton caravan with no fuss whatsoever and need to set the cruise at 60 to prevent it going a lot faster. I need to ask though .........has anyone suffered any rusting / tarnishing to their 18inch 5 spoke alloys..mine are showing early signs around the hubs? Can I share a little secret....if you wish to fit excellent parts filters / brakes / etc get in touch with BLUE PRINT who specialise in parts for Jap and Korean motors. The parts are very high quality and are at least half than the cost of KIA parts. ( no I do not work for them but know of them through the motor trade ) Love to hear about any automatic XT's out there..........

    My car

We bought a 56-plate Sorento in January. We were the first to test drive it and then buy it straight away. We pull a box trailer and a horse trailer and were very impressed with the vehicle and still are to a degree.

It started to develop a knock from the front driver's side corner that could only be heard by the driver when in the seat. It seemed as if the knock happened after the vehicle went over a bump and the front end lifted, although it wasn't really in time with the dropping and raising of the suspension. After taking it to our dealer, who couldn't do enough for us, they said the front suspension bottom arm was shifting back and forth and causing the knock.

They changed bushes and tightened it up and it was fine... for another three weeks!

We have since returned it and they cannot cure the fault this time, and they have changed suspension legs, shock absorbers, the lot. We are currently waiting for a technical guy to come out and give his verdict.

After looking at previous reviews, I am wondering if the gearbox modification has been done, because we too now get a judder when pulling away to the right as if the differential is not good. The car also 'graunches' when pulling away from overnight standstill as if the parking brake is holding.

If it ain't cured, I will demand a new vehicle because if it isn't cured then it isn't safe in my eyes for driving... just in case.

    My car

I purchased my Kia Sorento XSE Auto in July 2005 and have now covered almost 20,000 miles. I made some enquiries when the car was a few months old and advised my local Kia dealership on full lock the vehicle had a tendency to judder when pressing the accelorator. I was advised there was no major problem and they would fully check it out on it's first service. I noticed just before it's first service was due the inside of both front tyres were badly worn down. I pointed this out and was told the geomitory may need adjusting and i said this surely was something to do with the judder. I collected the car and the dealer had put the bad tyres on the rear. They also said there was a problem with the judder but could not find anything.

I spoke to Kia direct who were very very poor and offered me nothing.

I am now just about to have the 2 year service and have just been advised that this model with auto box has major gearbox problems and has a result will probably require a new gearbox!!!!!

I also now have realised the good tyres fitted from the rear last year are now bald on the inside so i wonder if they will replace these - i think i know the answer.

The car itself is fantastic and i love it but i just hope this problem is going to get sorted. As for Kia customer service i would rate them as zero on their performance.

    My car

I ordered a new Kia Sorento (2.5 XT diesel) in March 2007.

The day before I was due to take delivery the garage phoned to say there would be a delay due to a minor problem. I pressed for more information and was told the gearbox had locked up. It would need the gearbox removing to find the problem.

I declined to accept the vehicle and was supplied with another model some six days later.

Eight weeks down the road and with only 1500 miles on the clock, the replacement vehicle has suffered the same problem. I now find this is a known fault and Kia has produced modified parts for the gearbox.

On this occasion, Kia requested the garage to fit a new gearbox rather than modify the old one. However, nobody is able to tell me if this replacement gearbox is of a different design, to overcome the locking up problem, or just another one from the same mould.

I have to wait with baited breath to find out the hard way. If you're thinking about buying a Sorento, my advice is to think long and hard about your decision. If I started from square one again, I’d go for a low-mileage Merc ML 270. I need total reliability for towing a large caravan, so far my confidence in the Kia Sorento is hovering around zero!

In fairness to the dealer, they have bent over backwards to try and get the Kia name back in lights.
