Having had the benefit of all the helpful MX-5 reviews, we took a test drive with the roof down one sunny afternoon and were so impressed that we just had to have one.
Our personal preference was for standard suspension and a 5-speed gearbox and we included the climate control and with heated leather seats, which has proved to be very worth while option.
We have now had this car for 17 months with no problems todate. The quality is good and fuel consumption is OK if you are not in a hurry! We find the car comfortable over long distances for both driver and passenger - All this and it looks great too!!
If you are ready for something different go and try one!!
I bought my second MX5 new just over a year ago, I do love the car. Before I took it for it's first service it developed an annoying clicking noise from some where in the car, anyway I mentioned this when the car was booked in. When I picked the car up later that day they said that they had put some padding in the panels and the noise should not be there any more. Wrong, the noise was still there, I booked the car back in and again they told me when I picked it up that it should be OK, but things like this are difficult to find (I appreciate this having been a fitter for 27 years) however the noise was still there. Again I booked the car back in, before the end of the day they contacted me to say that they thought they had found the fault, they said it seemed to be a spot weld that had come adrift(strange)the car has been with them now for nearly four weeks they say that they have never come across something like this before. They have now told me that Mazda UK want to inspect the car (they are not going to do this until Nov 3rd) this means that they have had my car for five weeks, the car has only done 5k. They have given me a courtesy car but as I told them if I wanted a Fiesta, I would have bought one at half the cost of the Mazda. I do feel very disappointed. I can only wait to see what happens.
I bought this car in Feb 08 and it is the only car in the family and thus gets used every day. A fantastic motor, the level of spec is ok with only Air Con being missed. I'm 6ft6 and manage to drive it fine, although I do suffer more buffeting than most, with the top down, but that is still fine.
Handles great and looks great, I bought mine with 5k on the clock and 18 months old and saved nearly £6k on list price, so I think the level of kit you get is excellent value, especially when compared to it's competitors.
I haven't had it serviced yet and Mazda use a digital service record rather than a service book, which is a pain.
The boot is a reasonble size and will fit the weeks shop in along side my gym bag.
I manage to get 300 miles to a tank unless i'm driving hard, that can consist of commuting and motorway driving. The car is excellent on the motorway.
The roof is a dream to put up and down and can be dropped or put up without removing your seat belt in seconds, very easy to drop or put up quickly at traffic lights.
Overall a great car and I'd definatly get another one, but would not consider a lower spec model. The hard top drop roof looks good, but not many of them about.
I have owned my MX5 2.0 from new its my only car so unlike others I use it everyday, it does handle superbly its fast enough brakes well and with the top down the buffet level is acceptable all positive points...however I do feel that the optional BOSE Stereo isnt worth the money and the seats are far too narrow, im 6ft, and the equipment is lacking a 19k car should at least have a trip computer. But the car has been trouble free from Sept last year the roof is weather proof and it returns a respectable 31mpg.
Order a brochure, find your nearest dealer or book a test drive
Amazing car, once driven, never forgotton, forget all the pretenders like BMW Z4 and Mercedes SLK, they will never have the passion of a Porsche
I love this car! Handling is great, its fun to drive and even reasonably practical!
