USED Mercedes-Benz M-Class 4x4 (98 - 06)

My car

i have owned a mercedes ml270cdi for nearly 4 years now and i have had an engine replaced and several electrical faults.I purchased the s.u.v off mercedes in swansea in march 04 from new.I have had a range rover vogue previous to this and i would hand the keys over in the morining for a ssangyong.I drove my sisters ssangyong when she broke her leg and I found it a fablous s.u.v to drive,the practicality and comfort at affordable prices.The jeep is averaging 30mpg around town and the country roads.If you are thinking of buying a mercedes ml270 cdi take my word for it

My car

First thing, already mentioned in previous review by Steven Elsham, "The only minor problems are: - catch 'broken' on central armrest (but still usable) - glovebox hinge 'broken' (but still usable)." Same as mine!! Other item, similar experience to Tim Berridge - see his review. Had car serviced at MB, they wanted £££'s, pads+discs all round, plugs and leads. I had car checked at Independant MB Specialist, only front brakes were needed. Cost was less than half of what was quoted! Car covered 75k miles now, but still drives, (and looks) like 20/30k miles. Negatives have been mentioned already also - but it's not a car to do 70mph+ around corners! Other than that the car is great My advice, use an Independant Specialist if you have one nearby!

My car

My car (bought 2nd hand from MB) 3 years ago - it came with every possible extra, including AMG body kit and wheels (which get loads of positive comments). On the inside, it is excellent. The seats are comfy and the leather is excellent quality. The BOSE sound is beyond belief! I haven't had any trouble with the interior quality - everything seems tough.The COMMAND display is large and intuitive. The rear seats are very cold in the winter and heated rear seats would make passengers happier. Opt for the scotchguard option - the interior is still like a brand new car. Outside, the car looks as good as new - (now 60000 miles). The ride quality can be very jiggly and tiresome at times, but on smooth roads it is very good. The accelaration is outstandingly good for such a big car. Fuel consumption is awful, but thats to be expected with a V6 3.7 litre. The service from MB is at best mixed. They are very polite and good at keeping in touch, but servicing dept is inept. E.g. a centre brake bulb blew and they quoted me £110 (!) for a new LED strip. I replaced the bulb at Halfords for £1.50. It passed its MOT at MB, then had a service a week later and found a snapped suspension coil! It was replaced under warrenty. Have had the car 3 years and still on the first set of tyres (Yokohama - excellent), however, 2 complete sets of brake pads AND DISCS have been needed - they only last 15000 miles- terrible! Regular servicing costs are reasonable (£300-400) as a lot gets included.

This is an enjoyable car to drive and use, and it has been reliable.

There's one thing to watch out for if you buy one. I found out that if you buy an M-Class you should get a free off-road driving day from Mercedes (in their car, not yours!) which is really worth doing. I went and it was an amazing day.

I hadn't been told about it when I bought the car, and I heard that a lot of people didn't get this invitation.

Everyone who buys an M-Class is entitled to it, so if you don't get your invite (as I didn't) make sure you follow it up, because you paid for it in the price of the car!
