    My car

I have had my ML 270CDI from new for two years now and gradually it has gone from bad to worse. My car has spent more time in the garage then I have been driving it.

I am really disappointed with the service and quality of the car. I had to replace all the brake discs and pads at 5000 miles and now after another 8000 miles I have had to replace them again. It is outrageous!!

There are contant faults occurring with the car: front demister failing, climate control systems, no air con or heating front or back, steering problems (drifting to the left).... there are so many faults that I can't even remember what they were.

In addition, I am so annoyed with the service dept at my local dealership, each time I take my car in for repairs, due to these faults, I have to wash and polish my car each time, so they can inspect for damages on the car(which there are none) and as soon as it is returned back to me, it is always damaged: broken wing mirror, scratches everywhere and grease all over my leather seats...Agghhhh!!!

    My car

I'd sum this car up by saying it's a £20k car with a £10k badge added. It's only average in just about everything it does.

The build quality is fair, but the design and layout is nothing to write home about.

The Kia Sorrento is better value, a better ride and £10k cheaper - back to that badge again!

    My car

When compared to the Land Rover Discovery, the ML is in a league of its own - acceleration, comfort and interior usability is excellent.

This is no sports car but the 270 CDi engine is smooth and fairly brisk. It's no TD5, though.

I do not use the ML off road, but I never used the Land Rover off road either, so I cannot comment on its ability in that quarter. The ML is very stable on motorway runs and is not phased by crosswind. Visibility and braking are excellent.

Fuel consumption has been approx 30mpg combined but drops by about 20% when town driving.

    My car

An excellent car, extremely luxurious but not that brilliant to drive.

Over slightly uneven surfaces it jumps about all over the place, also the steering has no feeling to it. The performance of my car, the ML 55 AMG, is astonishingly impressive for such a big car but the fuel consuption is terrible and I can only manage 20mpg on the combined cycle, when it's driven hard though it only does 10mpg.

It is still a very impressive car that is stylish and fast.
