The preformance of the car is suprising, it certainly is a "hot hatch".
The only downside to the car is a noise from the rear discs when you sit in the car. I've had mine back to the main dealer on more than one occasion because of this noise, they tell me it's common with all cars with all round disc brakes. I would like to know how true this is.
Other than that, if you have a heavy foot, you better have deep pockets!
I am having serious problems with my 2002 Clio engine!
First it had a flat spot and now the engine runs sooooo lumpy it's uncomfortable and I do not like to take passengers as it's embarrassing!
C'est tres magnifique!!
This car certainly has va va voom, I have found it very quick and a great handler.
It costs less to run than my 2.2 Vectra did and is a lot more fun!!
It has plenty of gadgets to play with inside, with cruise control and digital climate control as standard.
I would recommend this car to anyone looking for fast affordable car!!!
The Clio seems to be getting overlooked as it vies for attention with all the new superminis on the market.
That's a shame, for people are missing out on a car that is genuinely engaging to drive. The 1.2 16V is zesty and keen to rev, frugal and acceptably refined. The cabin, meanwhile, is a gargantuan improvement over previous small Renaults in terms of perceived quality.
Downsides? The seats, in typically French fashion, are too soft and, although comfortable for short trips, soon start to bite.
Not everyone will take to the driving position (although I think it's fine) and the savings gained though the excellent mpg and long service intervals are soon eroded by savage depreciation.
Finally, it's true to say that there are better packaged superminis out there - space is in short supply in the back.
Overall, though, I really like the Clio. Mine has been reliable so far, and I've every confidence in both the car and the dealer. There are undoubtedly rivals with a broader range of talents, but I think the character and driving dynamics of the baby Renault keep it in contention. Give it a try.
