What should I look for in a used BMW iX1 estate?

The BMW iX1 is a family electric SUV, so make sure the interior is in good condition, with no damage to the seats or trim. Be sure to check the exterior for scratches and scrapes, too.
The iX1 is a big, heavy car, so make sure there are no knocks or bangs from the suspension on a test drive. There’s lots of tech inside, too, so make sure everything is working correctly, with no glitches or bugs from the touchscreen.

What are the most common problems with a used BMW iX1 estate?
At the time of writing, the iX1 has three recalls listed. To check whether a car has been affected, you can contact your local BMW dealer. You will not need to pay for anything involving the recall.

A cable bridge connection connecting two circuit boards within the cell supervision circuit (CSC) might not have been installed properly.
How the manufacturer will repair: On the affected vehicles, the cell supervision circuit (CSC) inside the high-voltage battery will be replaced.

On affected vehicles, the high voltage battery may suffer a low impedance short circuit within a cell module

Is a used BMW iX1 estate reliable?
The iX1 is not a reliable car, according to the What Car? Reliability Survey. It finished in 19th place out of 27 electric SUVs, with a disappointing score of 86.8%. That places it above the Nissan Ariya and Volkswagen ID 4, but below the Audi Q4 e-tron, Kia EV6, Renault Scenic, Skoda Enyaq and Tesla Model Y.
As a brand, BMW did much better. It finished in sixth place out of 30 manufacturers, placing it above Audi, Kia, Skoda, Volkswagen and Volvo, but below Honda and Toyota.
