The Kia Sportage is a great all-round family SUV that offers a generous amount of space for four and in the boot, with one of best interiors in its class. The Sportage still makes the most sense if you stick with the lower trim levels, but despite the Hyundai Tucson being a slightly cheaper route into a hybrid family SUV, we reckon the Sportage is the slightly more polished alternative.

The sportiest trim level in the range comes with larger 19in wheels, privacy glass, a larger 12.3in touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, keyless ignition, driver's lumbar support, part-suede seats and gloss-black exterior finishes.

The entry-level 1.6-litre petrol engine offers 148bhp and sprints from 0-62mph in 9.9sec. It should offer sufficient performance for pretty much any situation, even if it may need working hard to get up to speed. You can have the 1.6 T-GDI with an automatic or a manual gearbox. The automatic also comes with mild-hybrid tech to reduce emissions and fuel consumption, and can be had with four-wheel drive.
