The Kia XCeed tries to combine hatchback and SUV qualities, but doesn't quite pull it off, and the regular Ceed is ultimately a better buy. The rival Seat Leon is roomier and better to drive, while the Skoda Karoq and other SUVs are available for similar money while bringing real practicality advantages.
This is our preferred trim because it gets you all the basics, including 16in alloy wheels, keyless entry, automatic lights, air-con and cruise control.
On balance, this engine gets the cost/performance balance right, and is our preferred choice. The 0-60mph time of 9.0sec is hardly the best in the class, though.
