The rival Seat Leon is roomier and better to drive, while the Skoda Karoq and other SUVs are available for similar money while bringing real practicality advantages.

The engine
See full engine specsOn balance, this engine gets the cost/performance balance right, and is our preferred choice. The 0-60mph time of 9.0sec is hardly the best in the class, though.
