The new Kia Carens MPV has been revealed at the 2012 Paris motor show.

Kia will offer five- and seven-seat versions of the new Carens: there are no plans to rename the bigger-capacity version, unlike rivals such as the Renault Grand Scenic and Ford Grand C-Max.

The Carens is based on the latest Kia Ceed. It's likely to available in the UK with three engines, including two 1.7-litre diesels and a 1.6-litre petrol unit, all with stop-start. The full UK line-up will be confirmed early 2013.

Kia will also reveal full pricing and specification details for the new Carens closer to its March 2013 on-sale date, but the range is expected to be compact, with the emphasis on standard-fit - rather than optional - extras. Prices are expected to start at around 16,500, with top-of-the-range versions costing around 23,500.

Hyundai is expected to launch a closely related MPV - based on the i30 - at around the same time. It could be called ix30, but there are no details as yet.

Kia is also displaying the all-new Proceed at the Paris show.
