Mercedes E-Class E300e AMG Line Premium

COTY 2024 logo with Motoreasy

It may not offer the rock-bottom running costs of the Tesla Model 3, but for those who aren’t quite ready to go fully electric, the Mercedes E-Class E300e is the perfect alternative. Its 24.1kWh battery is the same size as that fitted to the original Nissan Leaf, so it’s huge by plug-in hybrid standards. As a result, you can officially travel for up to 72 miles on electricity; few hybrids can go farther without the help of their petrol engines.

When running on its motor alone, progress is serene, and the E300e can even sustain motorway speeds without troubling its 2.0-litre petrol engine. What’s more, when you do need to call on the engine for additional grunt, it kicks in quietly and barely perceptibly.

The E300e’s long electric range means it sits in the 5% benefit-in-kind bracket, compared with the 8% charge of its key rival, the BMW 5 Series 530e.
