Fiat 500 Electric 42kWh

Considering the fact that the Italians (specifically Alessandro Volta) invented the battery, it should come as no surprise that the Fiat 500 suits electric power to a tee. The instant response of the 117bhp motor helps you nip in and out of traffic with ease, and the 500’s tiny dimensions and light steering make it more suitable for quick manoeuvres and squeezing into tight spaces than the bigger MG 4. A smart, modern interior and a relatively high driving position help its cause, too.

A 201-mile official range means you won’t have to top up the 500’s battery as frequently as you would in a Honda E or Mini Electric. Granted, this figure will drop to more like 140 miles in real-world use, but that isn’t likely to bother you unless you want to venture out of town regularly. Compared with the MG 4, the 500 is quite pricey and impractical, but in this electric guise, it makes more sense than ever as a stylish urban runabout.
