Face-lited 2015 Mazda 6 revealed
* Face-lifted Mazda 6 revealed * Revealed at the LA show * Due to go on sale early in 2015...
The face-lifted Mazda 6 is appearing at the 2014 LA motor show alongside the new CX-3 SUV and the face-lifted CX-5. It goes on sale early in 2015.
What is it?
Like the updated CX-5 SUV, the main exterior changes to the 6 revolve around its grille, which takes on a more rounded shape. New LED headlight designs also feature at the rear alongside a new shark-fin radio antenna, while the range of colours has also expanded.
The 6's updates are most evident inside. Adopting a more luxurious look, Mazda has redesigned the instrument panel and lower console. New features include an electronic parking brake, a free-standing 7.0-inch infotainment screen running the firm's MZD connect service and heated rear seats.
What engines can I choose from?
The 6's engine range, which includes 2.0 and 2.5-litre Skyativ-G direct-injection petrol engines as well as a 2.2-litre Skyactiv-D diesel, has been carried over, but the diesel is now available with Mazda's latest all-wheel-drive system.
What equipment does it come with?
Additions to Mazda's suite of safety technologies include adaptive LED headlights, plus lane-keeping and driver-attention assistance systems.
There are five trim levels on offer - SE, SE Nav, SE-L, SE-L Nav and Sport Nav.
SE comes with daytime running lights, electric door mirrors, keyless start, air-conditioning and a touch-screen infotainment system as standard. SE-L adds rain-sensing wipers, climate control and front and rear parking sensors. Both SE and SE-L also come with an electronic parking brake and headlights that stay on to show you the way to your door. They also get the 7.0-inch touch screen, complete with DAB digital radio and internet connectivity via a smartphone.
Sport Nav trim gets 19-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, a reversing camera, leather trim and keyless entry.
How much will it cost?
The Mazda 6 prices have risen slightly with the increased equipment levels, but not drastically over the current model. The entry-level saloon with the 143bhp 2.0-litre petrol in SE trim has risen by £200 and now starts at £19,795. and goes up to £28,795 for the higher-powered 2.2-litre diesel Tourer in Sport Nav trim complete with the automatic gearbox.
