Kia has started work on a rival to the Toyota GT86, the company's US design chief has revealed.
Speaking to What Car?, design boss Tom Kearns said: 'We have made a model of an affordable, two-seat, rear-wheel-drive coupe.'
Company insiders are reported to think that such a car would make Kia a more aspirational and emotional brand.
Kearns also said that the all-new Soul could spawn a family of models, including a soft-top version as previewed by the Soulster concept car. He admitted that he wants it to become Kia's 'Mini or Beetle'.
Other Soul-based show cars have included a pick-up and a sporty two-seater.
