New Omoda 4 revealed as hybrid small SUV – with electric power coming soon

Omoda’s newest small SUV will take on the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur, and there'll be both hybrid and electric power...

If creating SUVs is like collecting Monopoly properties, then Omoda is on its way to completing a full set, and it’s all thanks to the arrival of the new Omoda 4.

Set to arrive in the UK later this year, the Omoda 4 will naturally slot in just below the Omoda 5, acting as an entry point into Omoda's lineup. It will take on the likes of the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur with a full hybrid engine setup available at launch.

Technical details are thin on the ground, but we do know that the Omoda 4 will be underpinned by Omoda's boldly-named 'Super Hybrid System' – likely the same setup as in the larger Omoda 5. That means it'll combine a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a small 1.8kWh battery and 221bhp electric motor. We've tested this system in the 5 and found it offers a nice amount of shove from the get-go, but the petrol engine can be hesitant to kick in when you need a boost of acceleration.

If you're not enticed by hybrid power, then you might be pleased to know that an all-electric variant is due to arrive later down the line. It'll likely be closely related to the Omoda E5 (which is, as you might have guessed, the EV version of the 5). That car comes equipped with a 61kWh battery and yields an official range of 267 miles – further than a Ford Puma Gen-E, and on par with an entry-level Kia EV3.

Outside, the Omoda 4 is noticeably sharper and more angular than its stablemates, with hexagonal wing mirrors and sharp grooves in the bodywork. It also forgoes the geometric grille present on other Omodas in favour of a aggressive-looking black front bumper.

Inside, there'll be a large central touchscreen with the ability to sync a Nintendo Switch console – a docking station for which is located on the centre console. It will also get a driver's display integrated into the dashboard.

The Omoda 4 will arrive in the UK at the end of 2026. No official prices have been revealed yet, but it will likely undercut the Omoda 5 – of which hybrid versions start at £25,755. That means the Omoda 4 could be one of the most keenly-priced hybrids on the market, undercutting the Nissan Juke and sitting broadly in line with the Renault Captur E-Tech.
