The updated Citroen C1 has had 700 knocked off its entry-level list price, leaving the city car ready to hit the road from 7995.
The face-lifted C1 made its debut at the Brussels motor show today, alongside refreshed versions of its almost-identical Toyota Aygo and Peugeot 107 sister cars.
Full trim details and prices have yet to be announced, but the top-spec C1 is expected to cost around 10,000, and will be significantly cheaper than the current top-of-the-range version.
The C1 is Citroen's first sub-100g/km CO2 petrol car.
Electronic stability control is expected to be offered across the entire range as an option for around 300 currently it's only available as an option on the C1 VTR+.
The C1 is Citroen's best-selling UK car and this face-lift comes ahead of an all-new car by 2015.
The Citroen C1, Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo have been refreshed as the rival VW Group prepares to start selling its own city cars the Seat Mii, Skoda Citigo and VW Up.
Francois Dabadie, who led technical development of the C1 at Citroen, said: 'This is a very competitive segment. We set the benchmark, and now we're taking the next step to bring the C1 up to date, and keep it current and fresh in the marketplace.'
He also confirmed that Citroen's DS range could be extended with a larger DS7 model as the manufacturer eyes increased sales in the Chinese market.
There are currently no plans for a scaled-down DS1 car, although Citroen hasn't ruled it out. If it does make it to production, we understand it could be based on the next-generation C1.
