Our verdict
Despite our two contenders belonging to the same small car class, they might appeal to different people. Our used Ford Fiesta better suits those who value performance and handling – in other words, keen drivers. The Dacia Sandero, on the other hand, gels better with families and urban commuters, because of its higher level of comfort and practicality.
However, despite it being a very close call in this test, for us, the Sandero takes the number one spot. We believe its merits make it the better buy for a wider group of people and, good though the Fiesta is, it doesn't quite justify buying a used car over a new one. So, to answer our original question, yes: the Sandero holds up well without its price advantage to stand on.
