Target Price

What is the Target Price?
The What Car? Target Price will change the way you buy your car. It is designed to answer the car buyer's biggest question: "How much should I pay for my new car?"
The Target Price is a realistic discount that should be within your reach at a dealer near you. And if your dealer won't sell you a car for the price we quote, we'll find you one who will.
How do we find it?
Our army of mystery shoppers is constantly researching prices all over the UK. They deal directly with dealers, get the low-down on the latest offers available from industry insiders, then we double-check these prices with independent sources.
Every Target Price is for a brand-new UK-sourced model – not a pre-registered, imported or nearly-new one – and it's backed by a written quote from a dealer. What's more, we update our prices every day to keep track of the latest developments in the marketplace.
How can I match it - or beat it?
  • Shop around - ring or visit several dealers and brokers then play one off against the other.
  • Don't tell the salesman how much you've got to spend - and remember that Target Prices are starting points for negotiations.
  • Stick to the car you want - dealers may push you towards a cheaper car to try to keep their profit margin up.
  • Get as much extra spec as possible - if the salesman won't budge on price, try to get a CD player or metallic paint thrown in.
