With a plush interior, impressive ride quality (on the optional MagneRide dampers), effortless performance and a competitive list price, the Corvette, now in its eighth generation, finally feels like it can take on the best from Europe.

Our chosen Corvette trim is actually the entry-level one. That’s because it gives you everything you could ever need and more, including heated and ventilated seats, parking sensors all-round, a rear-view camera, a head-up display, wireless phone-charging and the Z51 performance package.

With 475bhp and loads of low-down torque, the 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 feels quite old school. In fact, unlike rivals, which need to be high in the revs to create most of its power, it's better left in a higher gear. It sounds great too.
