Big practicality and small prices mean a used Grand C4 SpaceTourer should be on your shortlist.

What should I look for in a used Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer MPV?
When viewing a used car, always follow our used car buying checklist.
This spacious and flexible family car will have been used in car parks and on tight urban routes, so check bodywork carefully for damage and alloy wheels for kerbing. Also, look at the interior for signs of wear and tear, and make sure the two rearmost seats pop up and fold down easily.
It seems to be electrical gremlins that bug the Grand C4 SpaceTourer most. Most are non-engine electrical faults relating to areas such as the air-con and, in particular, the warning lights on the dash. Also reported were suspension problems and some large overall repair bills for a variety of smaller problems relating to the fit and finish of the interior.

What are the most common problems with a used Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer MPV?
AdBlue injection system: An issue with the AdBlue system could mean some examples made between 1 October 2019 and 12 March 2020 don't clean up exhaust emissions correctly. A software update on affected examples performed at a Citroën dealer should sort the problem.
Loose engine sump plug: The plug in the sump of the engine that is used to drain engine oil during a service could be loose on some vehicles built between 4-30 May 2018, allowing oil to leak out. This affects a small number of examples and requires the plug to be tightened to the correct torque setting to prevent spillage.

Is a used Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer MPV reliable?
The Grand C4 SpaceTourer should be a generally reliable car. It was absent from our 2024 What Car? Reliability Survey, but the model has performed well in it in the past.
As a car brand, Citroën came seventh out of 31 manufacturers in our 2024 survey. Its overall reliability score was 94.1%, beating Nissan and VW but falling short of manufacturers like Honda and Toyota.
Used Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer: the owners' view
In our latest Reliability Survey, Grand C4 Spacetourer owners said they had mixed dependability across both petrol and diesel versions. Several owners reported warning lights appearing unexpectedly, often linked to electrical or emissions systems, with some faults recurring even after repairs. A few cited gearbox and suspension issues, leading to inconvenient and sometimes lengthy visits to the workshop.
Dealer service experiences varied widely. Some praised their local dealerships for being attentive, quick to arrange repairs, and providing courtesy cars, while others criticised slow diagnostics, repeated visits for the same fault, and high repair costs outside warranty. In a handful of cases, replacement parts took weeks to arrive, prolonging downtime.
Overall, while a number of owners enjoyed largely trouble-free motoring, the survey responses point to a greater-than-average likelihood of electrical niggles and the importance of finding a proactive dealer for support.
