Read full reviewThere’s no doubt the F-Type holds plenty of appeal. Performance ranges from quick to downright rapid and the V8 versions sound glorious. It’s reasonably comfortable for long distances, although you’ll have to pack light: there’s not a lot of stowage space and the boot isn’t particularly big. Rivals such as the Alpine A110, the Porsche 718 Cayman and Porsche 911 are more enjoyable to drive, so we’d take a look at one of those instead.

See full engine specsOur favourite F-Type engine is the P450, a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 with 444bhp. It’s noticeably quicker and more muscular than the 2.0-litre, providing enough acceleration to pin you back in your seat, with a snarling exhaust note that turns into a guttural roar as you chase the red line. It’s available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive and is markedly more expensive than the P300, but it feels significantly more special.
