The Mazda CX-5 is one of the best family SUVs that you can buy. Why? Well, while it lacks the additional practicality of seven seats (which the Peugeot 5008 comes with as standard), it's well priced, very well equipped, safe and classy inside. The 2.0 petrol engine with entry-level Centre-Line trim offers the best value for money, but the diesel engine is well worth a look if you do above-average mileage.

If you’re after all of the bells and whistles, you’ll want top-spec Takumi because it comes with luxuries including Nappa leather seats, Adaptive LED headlights, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats and a Driver Assistance Pack.

If you’re a private buyer who doesn’t do lots of miles, this is the one for you – it’s also our chosen engine. While it isn’t quite as fast as its rivals, the 163bhp means that there’s ample performance on offer and you’ll never struggle to reach motorway speeds or to overtake slow-moving traffic. It’s fairly efficient, so you won’t spend too much time at the pumps.
