Thanks to its superb efficiency and comfortable ride, the Mazda 2 Hybrid is a fine small car. The thing is, the Toyota Yaris makes even more financial sense, and if you're not set on a hybrid, the much cheaper Renault Clio is a better buy. If you do buy one, we recommend entry-level Centre-Line trim to keep the price respectable.
The trim
This gets you everything included on Homura, but adds a 12.3in digital instrument panel behind the steering wheel, a panoramic glass roof, a head-up display and a bigger infotainment screen.
The engine
With a 0-62mph sprint time of 9.7sec, the sole engine option for the 2 Hybrid is swift enough for most needs. It's very fuel-efficient too, with an official figure of just over 74mpg.
