Classy, comfortable, good to drive and packed with technology, the A-Class stands among the best premium-badged options in the family car class.

If you can, we’d suggest stepping up to AMG Line Executive because it doesn’t cost all that much more but comes with larger 18in alloy wheels and the incredibly comfortable sports seats. Other than that, you’ll find lots of AMG styling upgrades across the exterior and interior.

This is the only diesel engine available, but it’s a corker. With 148bhp, plenty of torque and a 0-62mph time of 8.3sec, it’s a versatile engine that’s relaxing even at motorway speeds. Unlike the petrol engines, you can only have the A200d with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
