What is it?

Mazda's CX-5 gets a mid-life face-lift, which includes a host of visual tweaks such as a new front grille, and redesigned LED headlights and tail-lights. New 19-inch alloy wheel designs are also available alongside new colours.

Inside, the latest version of Mazda's free-standing MZD Connect infotainment system has been fitted.

How much equipment does it come with?

Mazda's suite of safety technologies has been upgraded, which means the CX-5 gets adaptive LED headlights, as well as driver-attention and lane-assistance systems.

Three trim levels are available - SE-L, SE-L Lux and Sport. SE-L comes with standard kit such as alloy wheels, Bluetooth, cruise control and dual-zone climate control, while Lux trim adds heated front seats and leather upholstery.

SE-L Lux models get electrically adjustable heated leather seats and a sunroof, while Sport adds bi-xenon headlights, a reversing camera, keyless entry and an upgraded stereo. You can add sat-nav to all trims.

What engines can I choose from?

The engine options remain unchanged, with the range including a a 2.2-litre Skyactiv-D diesel in 148bhp and 173bhp guises. There are also a pair of 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G direct-injection petrols in 158bhp and 165bhp forms.

The lower-powered diesel is the greenest option in the range, emitting 119g/km of CO2.

Engines can be coupled to six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, while a new generation of Mazda's all-wheel drive system is also offered.

How good are its rivals?

The CX-5 has to compete with established rivals such as the popular Nissan Qashqai and Skoda Yeti, while the slightly smaller Renault Captur and the larger Nissan X-Trail are also contenders.

However, the CX-5 sits near the top of its class, with the current model getting a five-star rating.

How much will it cost?

The 2015 CX-5 is priced from £22,295 for the 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G petrol, a £400 increase from the starting price of the current car. Prices rise to £30,595 for the top-spec 2.2-litre Skyactiv-D Sport Nav model with an automatic transmission.
