2015 Volvo V60 Cross Country revealed
* Volvo shows off new Cross Country version of V60 estate * Gets increased ride height and more protection * Revealed at LA motor show, goes on sale June 2015...
The Volvo V60 Cross Country has been revealed ahead of its official public debut at the LA motor show this month.
What is it?
The V60 is the latest Volvo to get a Cross Country model, following on from the V40. It gets a set of upgrades that are intended to enhance its off-roading credentials.
What engines can I choose from?
There are two engines to choose from in the V60 Cross Country - the D3 and D4 diesels. The D3 is only available as a front-wheel drive car, but the 179bhp 2.0-litre diesel is available in front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Final technical details will be announced closer to the car's on-sale date in the first quarter of 2015.
The changes to the ride height and the extra cladding are likely to boost emissions and economy from the standard D3's 119g/km and 62.8mpg, and the D4's 103g/km and 68.9mpg.
How much equipment does it come with?
These include an increased ride height - boosted by 65mm - a rugged design with extra cladding around the wheels, skid plates on the front and rear bumpers and scuff plates at the side. It also gets high profile tyres and 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels.
Despite these off-road credentials, it will come with a choice of front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive options in the UK
How much will it cost?
Prices are yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to add a premium over the standard V60. The V40 Cross Country adds £1000 on top of the standard car, so a similar rise is likely.
Prices will be announced in the first quarter of 2015.
Can I get a discount?
The Volvo V60 is a regular in our deals of the week, with large four-figure discounts often available. Our Target Price on the D3 in SE trim is a little £6000 less than the list price.
Going by this, it is likely that there will be savings to be had on the V60 Cross Country as well, although possibly not quite as large initially.
How good are its rivals?
There are an ever increasing number of rivals for the V60 Cross Country, with the Skoda Octavia Scout, Seat Leon X-Perience, Volkswagen Golf Alltrack and the Vauxhall Insignia Country Tourer all offering a slightly more rugged take on an estate.
The Skoda, Seat and VW all take a similar approach, in that they are highly equipped models that sit at the top of their respective ranges.
