Best Skodas for company car drivers 2023

Time for a new company car? If you're thinking of going for a Skoda, check out our top picks for business drivers - they all carry our maximum five-star rating...

Used Skoda Octavia Estate 2021 front cornering

Skoda has a lot to offer company car drivers, with a range that spans small electric cars all the way up to seven-seat SUVs.

While there are plenty of conventional petrol and diesel models to choose from, fully electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) cars are the ones to pick for rock-bottom tax bills. If an electric car isn't a good fit with your driving needs, a PHEV will also stop the tax person putting a big dent in your pay packet. Again, Skoda has multiple options to choose from.

To help you find the right Skoda company car for your needs, we've selected our five top picks – and they're all good enough to earn our coveted five-star What Car? review rating.

In the case of each model, we've selected our favourite version from within the range, and calculated the monthly tax bill for a 40% tax payer. If you pay 20% tax, simply cut our calculations in half.

5. Skoda Kamiq

Skoda Kamiq 2022 front cornering

Best model 1.0 TSI 95 SE | What Car? rating 5/5 | CO2 emissions 123-132g/km | P11D price £20,710 | Monthly BIK tax rate 2021/22 @40% From £193.29

The Kamiq is a great all-rounder. Comfortable, roomy, economical and well finished, Skoda's smallest SUV is one of the standard-setters in its class.

You don't need to choose one of the pricier versions, because our favourite is the 1.0 TSI 95 SE, which is one up from the base specification. The 1.0-litre engine is a lot livelier than its modest power output suggests, and SE spec has air conditioning, alloy wheels, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring.

Low CO2 emissions and competitive pricing makes for low company car tax bills, with a 40% tax payer shelling out less than £200 per month. If you're in the 20% tax bracket, you can halve that cost.

4. Skoda Scala

Skoda Scala front corner

Best model 1.0 TSI 110 SE | What Car? rating 5/5 | CO2 emission 119-126g/km | P11D price £19,625 | Monthly BIK tax rate 2021/22 @40% From £176.62

Skoda has built a reputation for value, and you can make a strong case for the Scala offering more car for your cash than any other model in the range. It has what it takes to appeal to business drivers as well as private buyers, thanks to low P11d values and a choice of clean and frugal engines.

We'd avoid the basic S model, and instead go for the SE, which adds cruise control, rear parking sensors, a height-adjustable passenger seat, lumbar adjustment for the front seats and uprated infotainment with smartphone mirroring. Stick with the 1.0-litre TSI engine to keep a lid on the P11d price and emissions.

Whichever spec you choose, the Scala is a roomy, practical family hatchback that punches well above its price.

Skoda Superb Estate 2019 front right cornering

Best model 1.4 TSI iV SE L| What Car? rating 5/5 | CO2 emissions 26-28g/km | P11D price £39,835| Monthly BIK tax rate 2021/22 @40% £146.06

Estate cars don't get roomier than the Skoda Superb. You lose some luggage space if you go for the plug-in hybrid model, but there's still a very useful 510 litres for bags.

For a business driver, the plug-in hybrid, badged iV, has to be the model to choose. It's officially capable of travelling up to 37 miles without using a drop of fuel, relying instead on battery power. When the smooth petrol engine and the punchy motor work together, the Superb is satisfyingly swift.

The plug-in hybrid emits just 26-28g/km of CO2, which really cements the iV's place as the Superb to choose for company car drivers. A 40% tax payer will pay less than £150 a month.

2. Skoda Octavia Estate

Skoda Octavia Estate 2022 right tracking

Best model 1.4 TSI iV SE Technology | What Car? rating 5/5 | CO2 emissions 23g/km | P11D price £32,115 | Monthly BIK tax rate 2021/22 @40% From £74.94

If you want a really low benefit-in-kind bill, a plug-in hybrid should be on the shortlist for your next company car. Step forward, the Octavia Estate 1.4 TSI iV.

You get everything that's good about the Octavia – a roomy interior, great build quality and a cossetting ride – but with exceptionally low emissions. The official figures show a C02 output of just 23g/km, putting the Octavia in the 7% tax bracket for 2021-22.

Low emissions and impressive economy are matched by a healthy turn of speed when the 1.4-litre petrol engine and electric motor work together. The car can run on electricity alone in E-Mode.

The only downside to choosing the plug-in hybrid is that boot space drops from 640 to 490 litres, but for such a small tax bill, it's worth travelling a bit lighter.

1. Skoda Enyaq iV

Skoda Enyaq iV 2021 front

Best model iV 60 Lodge | What Car? rating 5/5 | CO2 emissions 0g/km | P11D price £35,330 | Monthly BIK tax rate 2021/22 @40% From £11.78

It seems almost crazy, but the monthly tax on a Skoda Enyaq is less than the price of a round of drinks at the pub. Our favourite, the iV 60 Lounge, will cost a 40% tax-payer just £11.78 of their monthly pay packet. That will double in April 2022, but it's still no money at all for a car as capable as the Enyaq.

Forget Tesla-baiting performance, the Enyaq is all about practicality and comfort, and is hugely roomy inside. We'd be inclined to stick with the smaller battery of the iV 60. It can't go as far on a charge as the iV 80, but its official range of 255 miles is still competitive. Choosing the iV 60 also keeps the P11d price down to maximise the tax saving of choosing an electric car.

If the Enyaq falls within the monthly contract hire budget your employer allows, this would be our first choice company car from the Skoda line-up.
