The stylish Ford Fiesta is one of the sweetest-handling and entertaining small cars money can buy. Accurate steering and minimal body roll mean the Fiesta changes direction quickly, while the ride remains composed and comfortable even over the worst of the UK’s roads.
The three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine feels smooth and pulls strongly from low revs; gear changes from the manual ’box are slick too. With a claimed Government economy figure of 65.7mpg and CO2 emissions of 99 g/km, the Fiesta is also cheap to run.
Completing the package is a practical cabin that is roomier than those offered by most of its rivals, plus a good-sized boot, a five-star Euro NCAP rating, and low group 11 insurance.
The Fiesta doesn’t hold on to its value as well as others in its class and some of the interior plastics, particularly on the rear doors and lower dashboard, feel a little cheap.
Although the Fiesta’s dashboard looks funky, navigating the on-screen menus could be made easier. The rear seats don’t fold completely flat either, leaving a stepped load bay.
Should I add any options?
All Fiestas come with stability control and seven airbags, including full-length curtain ’bags and a driver’s knee ’bag. The mid-range Zetec trim adds alloy wheels, air-conditioning, a heated windscreen, a leather covered steering wheel, Bluetooth and a USB port as standard.
Options include a City Pack, which brings rear parking sensors, electric mirrors and door puddle lights, in-built sat-nav system, plus DAB radio.
