Ford has revealed its first battery-powered Focus, which aims to combine the practicality of the family car with zero emissions.
There will be 15 Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) beginning demonstration tests in London in 2010 to evaluate whether the technology is suitable for European roads and driving conditions.
The prototype is based on the current Ford Focus, so there's room for five passengers and there's a practical boot.
The electric powertrain uses a lithium-ion battery pack, giving the car a range of up to 75 miles and a speed of up to 85mph.
There's even climate control the system has been developed as part of the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid that was recently introduced in North America.
The fleet is part-funded by the UK Government's Technical Strategy Board, and forms part of the UK Ultra-Low Carbon Vehicles research programme.
