New Audi RS6 Avant vs Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate: costs

With close to 1200bhp between them, the new RS6 Avant and the E63 S Estate are as rapid as they are practical. But which is best?...

The E63 has a much higher list price, but private cash buyers should be able to score a far bigger discount to undercut the RS6 by around £1500. This will help to offset the E63’s higher running costs (to the tune of more than £10,000 over three years), mainly due to the fact that it sheds value at a much faster rate.

If you’re buying on a four-year PCP finance deal (assuming a £10,000 deposit and a 10,000- mile annual limit), you can expect to pay £1097 per month for the RS6 and £1421 for the E63. Company car buyers will be stung whichever they choose, but again the E63 is pricier, costing a 40% taxpayer an extra £3289 over three years in salary sacrifices.

It’s better equipped, though. You’d have to spend a fair chunk of cash on options on the RS6 to match the E63’s adaptive cruise control, sports exhaust and extra safety kit, such as blindspot monitors. Both cars come with automatic emergency braking.
