When Coco Chanel popularised the little black dress in the 1920s, it changed the status of the colour black in the fashion industry forever, allowing it to become associated with elegance and style. So, the launch of the new Land Rover Defender Octa Black should aim to provide both of those things in abundance.
Indeed, Land Rover has just added the option to specify the range-topping Defender Octa in an exclusively all-black theme.
Creatively dubbed the Defender Octa Black, buyers who opt for the new paint option will receive their Defender in what Land Rover describes as the “truest black” in its paint palette, with the choice of either a dark gloss or matte finish (though you will have to pay extra for the latter).

Black elements continue across the exterior, including on the scuff plates and Land Rover oval badge, which gets some darkened silver script. On most elements, you can opt for either a gloss or satin finish.
The Defender Octa Black is available with either 20in wheels, which are an option on the regular Defender, or gloss black 22in wheels, complete with matching brake calipers.

Inside, the Defender Octa’s sports seats are furnished with a new black leather material, while the seat backs and armrest hinges are finished in grey. As standard, the dashboard comes in satin black, but you can opt to have carbon fibre details.
A new 13.1in infotainment touchscreen replaces the 11.4in one in the regular Defender, and you get an advanced 15-speaker Meridian sound system. If that number of speakers isn’t enough, then you should also be able to feel the music through the Defender Octa’s pulsating Body and Soul Seats.

The Octa is the flagship version of Land Rover’s most off-road capable model, and as such it gets a hefty 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 petrol engine with a thundering 626bhp. That engine receives mild hybrid assistance for some additional power and lower fuel bills, as well as an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The Octa is available exclusively with the Defender’s mid-size 110 body.
The Land Rover Defender Octa Black is available to order now. Prices aren’t yet revealed, but we can expect they’ll start at a premium over the regular Defender Octa, which is priced from £148,045. That means we could see pricing start at around £160,000 for the Octa Black.
