Behind the wheel

Driving position, visibility, build quality

While we weren’t overly enamoured with the original CX-5’s interior, things are much improved in the latest model. It may not be the most exciting to look at, but the dense plastics, tasteful brushed metal-effect trims and precise-feeling buttons and switches are a cut above what you’ll find in the Koleos.

At least it’s easy to find a suitable driving position in both SUVs. Along with the usual seat slide and recline functions, the two cars come with adjustable lumbar support to keep your posture good on longer trips. If you’re after the additional luxuries of electric seat adjustment and seat heating, you’ll need to upgrade to a higher trim level in both cars.

Being SUVs, they have suitably lofty driving positions. It’s even stevens for front and side visibility, although the Koleos gets a bonus point for having a reversing camera to go with the front and rear parking sensors that are standard on both cars.
