Here's what you'll need to know when driving in Spain. Don't forget that like most European countries, the use of radar detection equipment is banned whether it's switched on or not.

Maximum speed limit
•Speed limits vary across Spain, so check the signposts for maximum speeds. However:

Motorways:
•120kph/75mph
Urban areas:
•50kph/31mph

Alcohol limit per 100ml of blood
•50mg

Equipment required in car
•Two warning triangles inside the car in the event of an incident, drivers should put one in front and one behind the car
•Headlamp converters. These are stickers on your headlights, which prevent oncoming motorists being dazzled by UK-configured headlamps
•Reflective jacket within reach inside the car
•Spare bulbs for the car's external lights, plus the tools to fit them
•If drivers usually wear glasses or contact lenses, a spare pair must be carried inside the car

Documentation to be carried
•Full British licence (if it's not a photo version, you'll need another form of photographic ID, such as a passport)
•Original registration document or hire-car paperwork.
•Motor insurance policy

•Seatbelts to be worn by all vehicle occupants
•Drivers are required to indicate before and after changing lanes on motorways - or face a fine
•The use of mobile phones while driving is prohibited as is the use of an earpiece only hands-free operation is permitted. Also, you must be away from the side of the road when taking calls
